African daisies (Osteospermum spp.) look a lot like common daisies, with petals radiating around a center disk. They are even members of the Asteraceae family, along with Shasta daisies and zinnias. The genus Osteospermum was named by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. The genus name is derived from Ancient Greek ὀστέον (ostéon), meaning "bone", and σπέρμα (spérma), meaning "seed".
