Firethorn offers something for everyone in the family Pyracantha (from Greek pyr "fire" and akanthos "thorn", hence firethorn) [2] is a genus of large, thorny evergreen shrubs in the family Rosaceae, with common names firethorn or pyracantha. They are native to an area extending from Southwest Europe east to Southeast Asia. Pyracantha is a genus of tenacious semi-evergreen or evergreen shrubs that grow well even in challenging planting sites. In late fall, pyracantha starts to produce showstopping clusters of bright red or orange berries that add bright spots of color to a quiet winter landscape later.
